Quick Start Guide
Section titled “Quick Start Guide”Time from signup to first session: 5 minutes.
No VPN. No server. No software on tech machines. No configuration beyond your RMM API key.
What You Need
Section titled “What You Need”- An RMM account (NinjaRMM supported first, more coming soon)
- A modern web browser
- That’s it.
Step 1 — Sign Up
Section titled “Step 1 — Sign Up”Visit gethelmapp.com and join the early access list. We’ll send you an invite with your portal login.
Free tier: No credit card required. 200K AI tokens/month included.
Step 2 — Connect Your RMM
Section titled “Step 2 — Connect Your RMM”Log in to the Helm portal. Navigate to Settings → Integrations and connect your RMM.
For NinjaRMM:
- Go to your NinjaRMM admin dashboard
- Generate an API key with read + execute permissions
- Paste it into Helm’s integration settings
Helm pulls your device inventory, alert history, and machine context from your RMM — so the AI knows your environment before you ask it anything.
Step 3 — Deploy the Agent
Section titled “Step 3 — Deploy the Agent”Helm provides a lightweight agent (~5 MB) that runs on your customer endpoints. Deploy it with one script from your RMM:
- In the Helm portal, go to Settings → Agent Deployment
- Copy the deployment script for your RMM
- In NinjaRMM, create a new script and paste it
- Deploy to a test device (or your entire fleet)
The agent connects to Helm automatically. No configuration needed on the endpoint.
Step 4 — Open Your Browser and Start Troubleshooting
Section titled “Step 4 — Open Your Browser and Start Troubleshooting”That’s it. Open the Helm portal in your browser:
- You’ll see your devices with their alert status
- Click any device to open a session
- A browser-based terminal opens with full AI copilot
- Type what you want in plain English — the AI does the rest
Try These First Commands
Section titled “Try These First Commands”- “Why is this machine slow?”
- “Check disk health and recent errors”
- “What software is outdated?”
- “Restart the print spooler”
- “Install Chrome and Adobe Reader”
The AI generates the right commands, runs them, and explains the output. You’re in control — it suggests, you approve.
Step 5 — Connect Your PSA (Pro Tier)
Section titled “Step 5 — Connect Your PSA (Pro Tier)”Pro tier unlocks PSA integration for full ticket lifecycle:
- Navigate to Settings → Integrations → PSA
- Connect your PSA (ConnectWise, HaloPSA, FreshService, etc.)
- Helm now reads tickets and writes resolution notes + time entries automatically
Step 6 — Add Your AI Key (Pro Tier)
Section titled “Step 6 — Add Your AI Key (Pro Tier)”Pro tier uses BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) for unlimited AI:
- Create an account at OpenRouter (recommended)
- Add a credit card and set a spending limit
- Generate an API key
- Paste it into Settings → AI Configuration
You’ll have access to every major AI model. We recommend Claude Sonnet for the best balance of capability and cost. Most MSPs spend $5–15/tech/month.
What’s Next?
